2024 has been a very challenging year for our landscaping and flower displays. It started with our new contracted landscaper passing away unexpectedly, and his company being dissolved before our flower order even arrived. We scrambled to find the supplier in southern Alberta and then dealt with getting our flower order delivered directly to us while we contracted a new landscaping firm. But, before the flowers arrived, we, and everyone else in the city were hit with water restrictions and a heat wave. We delayed planting the flowers thinking the water repair would be a quick fix. However, as we all know, this didn’t happen, and we were forced to plant already stressed flowers. We then went into an expensive twice-weekly water delivery to keep the flowers alive. Due to the phenomenal work of Cindy and Trevor Robinson, (our landscaping board member and husband), we managed to have the flowers not only survive but begin to thrive. Unfortunately, we were then hit with a hail storm, and another announcement of water restrictions to be initiated at the end of August.
So, as we have already significantly exceeded our 2024 landscaping budget, the board has decided to discontinue trucked-in water delivery and rely on rain for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Here’s hoping that 2025 will be a little more cooperative with our landscaping design!
